The past few days I haven’t known what to do with myself. I haven’t had to worry about scheduling my next dance lesson, about running to Walmart to buy more bandaids, I haven’t had to search the mall for yet another pair of pants/skirt/top to wear, I haven’t had to drive to Niantic to the Arthur Murray Dance Studio, I haven’t had to apologize yet again for being late, I haven’t had to worry about whether my strut was “sassy” enough… A very weird feeling after being on the go for almost two months!
Friday night was finally the night of Waterford’s Dancing with the Stars! The turnout was AMAZING! By Friday morning all of our tickets were sold out and the show was the buzz around town. I’ll be completely honest- I woke up around 5:00am on Friday and I was completely terrified about the show that night! Really, I don’t think any day of my life has ever gone slower. Finally 5:00pm strolled along and it was time to head to Waterford High School to get ready for the show!
After that, the rest of the night was a blur! Our 7:00pm start time flew by, we were all introduced, and before I knew it it was intermission and Matt and I were up next! So we practiced one more time in the hallway, high-fived, hugged, and got ready to go. What happened next, well, here’s the video for you to see for yourself!![]()
Thank you Waterford Patch for doing video all night long! You can see the rest of the night’s performances on their site, too!
Basically, it was awesome! We didn’t win but we were still SO pumped and proud of our performance! Its was possibly the biggest adrenaline rush of my life. Every move was hit, our little “hip hop” section was great, and the death drop was perfect! If I could I would do it all again in a heartbeat!
I am so proud of myself for volunteering to be in Dancing with the Stars! I’ve always been a behind the scenes (and behind the lens!) kind of person, but I knew this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up! There are so many amazing people who volunteered their time and skills to help put the show together, especially Dani, Erin, Maureen, and Christine from Waterford Youth Services. It was crazy in the office the week of the show, but it went off without a hitch! Also a tremendous thanks all of the instructors and staff of Arthur Murray, especially Jessica, Staz, and Amber for dealing with the ridiculous amount of phone calls from Erin and myself the week of the show! Without the help from everyone at Arthur Murray, it would have been just a bunch of people moving awkwardly around the dance floor and no one wants to see that.![]()
Lastly, if you aren’t doing anything tonight and you’re in the area, absolutely stop by Mohegan Sun and celebrate with all the hundreds of people for Arthur Murray Dance Studio’s 100th Anniversary Celebration! From what I’ve been told it’s going to be an AMAZING day! There will be group and private lessons, a fashion show, drinks, food, and of course LOTS of dancing! Not to mention celebrity DJ Louis Van Amstel (aka, the DJ who does all for music for the REAL Dancing with the Stars!). It starts at 2:00pm and goes till 10:00pm… so I better see you there!
(Thank you to my amazing friends Al and Carol for these photos!!).jpg)
